A timber framed roof extension and general refurbishment to a 1920s terrace in Crystal Palace, adding a large bedroom, bathroom, office space and storage.

The main elevation faces south so the windows have been chosen to frame the view of the park behind the house but mitigate overheating that would occur with too much glass.

The construction incorporates wood fibre insulation and a fully taped vapour control layer to reduce draughts. New steelwork is kept to a minimum by aligning the internal walls on the existing supporting walls below.

The interior is clad in self-coloured Valcromat panelling, to reduce the need for wet trades.
The new stair is lit from above by a large flat openable triple glazed roof window that ventilates the centre of the house by drawing the air up through the stair area.
